EOC: Week 10 Exercise

You have been hired by a fashion consultant to help solve an argument between a social morality group and the Ginch Gonch marketing department. The morality group feels that Ginch Gonch should not be allowed to have a billboard of their new advertisements next to a major freeway and 100 yards form a high school.  However, the marketing team at Ginch Gonch feels they are within their rights to market their products anywhere they want.  Your job is to discuss the pros and cons of each side and make a decision on what should happen.

The moral of it is that really anyone passing by can see it. Childern, elderly, and other religious groups may feel this is offensive. Also people may feel gay fashion is pushed on people. Many people may find these adds offensive and vulger.
On the other hand why not welcome the gay community. It is 2011 we need to be open about the different people and respect them as they do us. We already sell sex in adds today, so what is the difference. It would just be catered to gay and may even catch the eye of straight men and woman and open a niche market for GG. All you can do is try till they make you take the add down!

EOC: Week 10 Questions

1.)What key characteristics of Ginch Gonch’s advertising makes them unique?  Why do you think consumers buy Ginch Gonch products?
They have made themselves stand out by having a unique brand. A simple idea but made creative, sold itself. The fun wearing undergarments have created a roar of excitment in the gay market.
2.)Do you think it is ethical to use sex to sell products?  Can you think of other retailers who do this?  How does it make their products more desirable?
D&G is a great example of how sex sells, and also in the gay world, they were one of the first. I don't think it is unethical at all.
3.)Why do you think Jason Sutherland decided to market to the gay community?  Do you think there are a lot of gay consumers?  Why?
The cute spontanious brand allows men to have fun and be themselves. They have more of a free spirit when it comes to fashion. They are more daring.
4)If you were in charge of Ginch Gonch’s next fashion assortment what would you call it?  Why?
The first thing that comes to my mind is funboy. I am not sure why, but I really like it. It would take more then 15 minutes to come out with another name.

BOC Week 10: Exercise - How would you create your own personal brand?

My name is Leah Oberle I have achieved a Bachelors in Business and Science. I am pursuing a career in a fashion related field. I also enjoy marketing and advertising aspects of business. I have been working in the retail field since I was 16 yrs. old. I have always giving style and shopping advice to my friends and family. I would like to create a line sometime in my career. I also have a lot of interest in visuals. Visuals are an important impact on buying; I would love to be that impact! I have a way with colors and design. I am also very creative which will help me be successful in anything I pursue. I don't have a BIG clear picture of whom or where I want to be, but I know it will involve fashion and retail. I have participated in the Fashion Club for 3 years. I have also been a part of MAGIC in LasVegas, and have also participated in a Kate Spade fashion release. I hope to become a visual expert and have a line on the side. I plan to achieve this and much more on my journey through life in the fashion retail field. Before I graduate I plan on having a full line designed and have networked my butt off in order to be successful after school!

Lyrics to Keep On Rocking Me, Baby :
Well, I`ve been looking real hard
And I`m trying to find a job
But it just keeps getting
Tougher every day

But I got to do my part
Cause I know in my heart
I got to please my
Sweet baby, yeah

Well, I ain`t superstitious
And I don`t get suspicious
But my woman is
A friend of mine

And I know that it`s true
That all the things that I do
Will come back to me
In my sweet time

So keep on rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby

I went from Phoenix, Arizona
All the way to Tacoma
Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A.

Northern California
Where the girls are warm
So I could be with my
Sweet baby, yeah

Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby

Baby, baby, baby
Keep on rocking
Rocking me, baby
Keep on rocking
Rocking me, baby
Hoo, hooo, yeah

Don`t get suspicious
Now don`t be suspicious
Babe, you know you
Are a friend of mine

And you know that it`s true
That all the things that I do
Are gonna come back to you
In your sweet time

I went from Phoenix, Arizona
All the way to Tacoma
Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A.
Northern California
Where the girls are warm
So I could hear my
Sweet baby say

Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me
Rocking me, rocking
Baby, baby, baby

Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby

Well, I`ve been looking real hard
And I`m trying to find a job
But it just keeps getting
Tougher every day

But I got to do my part
Cause I know in my heart
I got to please my
Sweet baby, yeah

Well, I ain`t superstitious
And I don`t get suspicious
But my woman is
A friend of mine

And I know that it`s true
That all the things that I do
Will come back to me
In my sweet time

So keep on rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby
Keep on a rocking me, baby

I went from Phoenix, Arizona
All the way to Tacoma
Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A.

Northern California
Where the girls are warm
So I could be with my
Sweet baby, yeah

BOC: Week 9 Zara Retail Purchase

"In one of New York City's largest ever retail condominium deals, the owner of Zara, the cheap-and-chic clothing retailer, bought a Fifth Avenue store for $324 million Friday.
Zara will occupy a nearly 40,000-square-foot space at 666 Fifth Ave. that was formerly occupied by an NBA store. The chain's owner, the Inditex Group of Spain, owns seven other brands and recently passed Gap Inc. to become the world's largest apparel retailer by sales." (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704570904576181010989657564.html)
I have never heard of Zara, but seems they are going to take over this huge retail space. I am very interested to find out more on this company and how well this store does in the center of Manhatten. I plan to follow up on this company to learn more about it and see where this company can succeed and or fail.
I have never been in a Zara or worn Zara clothing or even heard of it. Like most brands you need to be well known in order to succeed, so I am not sure how well this company will do since I have never heard of it.
I think that the value or pricing of the clothing may play an important role in why they bought this elaborate space. Perhaps they want to be recognized with the big retailers in Manhatten. As I said I dont know too much about the company, so not sure why it is such a huge deal for Zara.

EOC WEEK 8: Exercise

Many of us have an idea for a branded fashion product that is missing in the world.  Design and brand a fashion product that you think is missing from the marketplace.  Before you start you will need to conduct research to see if it already exists.  Also, you should figure out if there is a need for the product.  Use current periodicals such as Women’s Wear Daily or WWD Accessories to help with your research.  Explain your finding to the class.
I think that a T-shirt line and denim line called pitchfork or farmgirl. I would be a casual outside kind look. I would also consider bringing the names together Pitchfork Farmgirl with a girl holding a pitchfork. It would also have a plaid element and farmer country look. Now that fall is coming into place and plaid is definatly coming back into style I feel this brand can be marketed to an age range of 14-40 years old. Its trendy, but western, but modern.

EOC WEEK 8: Questions

1) Why do consumers feel such a close attachment to their bags?
Because they are cute and have easy graphics that anyone can enjoy. Small and easy cartoon graphics are easy to take in and enjoy.

2)What is your favorite brand of bag, briefcase, or backpack, and why? How does this brand reflect your personality?  Do you think you will ever switch to a different brand?
My original favorite bag is ESPIRIT. They are barely even remembered anymore. I always had the new Espirit bag every year for school.

3) Now that you have read this chapter, go to www.dantebeatrix.com and explain how the company has evolved.  What is the latest news?  How do you think the line reflects current fashion?
They now have many celeb endorsements. They are doing more with pet stuff as a general. I think it is cute and its obviously selling.

4) Why do you think Dante Beatrix is so successful with the company’s ideas to pursue graphic design instead of just focusing on bag design?  Is branding the key element that drives you to purchase a bag, briefcase, or backpack?  Look at a bag you have now.  Is it designer?  What is the brand?  What features really make it special, or is it really just the name that makes it unique? I have a cheapo bag. It isn't designer. I love the pattern on the bag it is just grafitti writting, it is black and silver it just says paris, new york, and some other places. I love it its a tota, it fits everything. I think that is how she benefits her brand by having a versitle bag and different amusing graffics.

Name and Logo : Final (5)

"Fashion Branding is a mixture of many elements and strategies that are generated to create product identity." (Pg 32 Brand Story)

Pitch Fork Farm Girl
Logo will be cream background and brown pitchfork with Brown F G, standing for Farm Girl.
Pitch Fork Farm Girl . . . Started out with a farm girl herself, Leah Oberle founder of Pitch Fork Farm Girl was raised on a farm in a small town in the mid-west during the 80's. Growing up her drive for fashion was strong, however living on a farm prevented her form being fashionable. Overalls, bandannas and plaid shirts were the everyday fashion staples of a farm girl. In the 90's they started making trendy fitted, colorful plaid shirts, with newer style buttons and different prints on the cuffs and what not. Growing up on a farm inspired her to start a line and brand catered to woman whom are casual but still fashionista's. You don't have to be on a farm to wear plaid, plaid has been popular on many items through the years, and is a current trend today. Pitch Fork Farm Girl remembers the farm days with it's vintage buttons and its classic tailored cuts of an old western plaid shirt. We also remember that the woman today is trendy, so we have made 3 different trendy names and styles of plaid shirts. With many different woman in mind, we designed a brand that is easy, trendy, and for any female and maybe even some men. This brand is recognized for its unique vintage look but modern trendy style of plaid today. "The current trend in fashion to offer premium products at higher prices means that consumers expect each garment to be somewhat unique and special to justify the cost." (Pg 158, Brand Story)
The quality of a product is very important to our customer, we strive to have the best quality products and designers for our brand. "Consumers have expressed that they want both quality fashion and to support our environment." (Pg 177, Brand Story) That's why we try to do our best to find the most ethical and environmental methods possible when manufacturing and producing our products.
